Though new parents may hate to admit it, newborn babies aren’t always perfect or beautifully angelic upon arrival. Quite the contrary, it is very common that babies fresh out of the belly may appear with some not-so-beautiful features – for instance jaundice when the baby’s skin develops a yellowish tinge, or “cone-head” (no, it’s not just a movie!) which many babies experience as a natural consequence of making the trip through the birth canal. Most of these will disappear within a day or two, but some of them may linger a bit longer, for instance birthmarks. The majority of these features are harmless, but should they not go away within a reasonable time, seek medical attention or consult a pediatrician.
