Dini’s Kosher Restaurant

Dini’s may be a kosher restaurant, but the far-ranging menu includes dishes from Japanese, Chinese and Middle Eastern cuisines, as well as global kid favorites like chicken nuggets. Youngsters who like to play make-believe will love the child-sized kitchen in the play area, which includes play kitchenware and toy food. They deserve kudos for the changing table in the women’s bathroom. Delivery service available. MN

Taste While tony Financial Street hotels have long been the expat’s choice for weekend buffet extravaganzas, the opening of Taste at the Westin Hotel’s Chaoyang branch has given east-siders another excellent choice closer to home. Taste’s airy layout, comfortable, low seating and convenient location near the Lufthansa Center makes for a family-friendly destination. The spread has everything you’d expect from a high-end hotel and has something for every picky eater, from Chinese and Western standards to more exotic fare such as Indian and Japanese sushi. After the meal, kids will love the chocolate fountain and ice cream bar with toppings like gourmet jelly beans. The Sunday brunch is RMB 288 with a 15 percent service charge; kids 6 to12 pay half-price and those younger than 6 are free. A better bargain can be had on Saturdays, when the same buffet (minus some of the frills) is priced at RMB 98, plus a 15 percent service fee (no discount for 6-12s, though those under 6 are still free). All-Star Sports Bar and Grill All-Star’s big American menu will see you through an entire Lakers’ game. While it’s more akin to a bar, the restaurant is surrounded by dozens of televisions so you won’t miss a single basket. The Café has a kids’ menu featuring classics such as hot dogs and macaroni and cheese, plus there are healthy alternatives on the regular menu, like “super bowl salads,” soups and quesadillas. All-Star also offers a 24-hour breakfast menu. In addition to watching games on TVs, older kids will also enjoy arcade games like the “dream shooter” basketball game and air hockey. Although no highchairs are available for little ones, there are plenty of booths for relaxed dining. Smoking is permitted throughout the restaurant, so families may prefer to use the outdoor dining area during the warmer months. AS
