2 Prepare for the Mid-Autumn Festival
It’s that time of year – the moon is round, the air is warm and the mooncakes are plentiful. This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhongqiu Jie,中秋节) arrives a little later than usual (Oct 3) but that doesn’t mean you can’t start your preparations early. Avoid the rush and stock up on mooncakes from the Holiland bakery chain. Discover the myth behind the festival and make the tragic love story of Chang’e and Hou Yi mandatory bedtime reading. 
3 The Village Fair in Hegezhuang
School is in session, but it’s time to head out to the fair! The Orchard restaurant, Yin Yang Community Center, and Real Life village renovation project have joined forces to deliver their first annual fair this Sep 6-11. Be prepared for good old-fashioned village fun, including pony rides, homegrown apples and pears for picking, street performers, contests, and stalls galore. This event is designed specifically for families; kids of all ages are welcome.
4 Dinosaurs, Darwin and Discovery
This month is all about dinosaurs at The Bookworm, and both grown-ups and kids will find something to pique their interest. Kids’ events include talking with prosthetic dino specialist Ludowic Blein and listening to David Lort Phillips and crew of the HMS Beagle, which is about to sail around the world in honor of Darwin. Teens can chat with Michael Keller, author of a brand new graphic adaptation of Origin of Species. Kid’s Club Sundays will still be running, but with a Dino/Darwinian theme, of course. 5 Cats
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s multi-award-winning Broadway musical, Cats, arrives in Beijing this month. This theater staple has been performed all around the world and translated into more than 20 languages. Hum along to your favorite songs and initiate the uninitiated. Tickets start from RMB 280. 6 Get Your Kilt On
The Caledonian Society will be holding a ceilidh at the German School this Sep 19. Join in the highland-themed fun with an evening of Scottish music and dancing – don’t worry, instructions will be given for first-timers. RMB 140 for non-members, including buffet dinner and free-flowing soft drinks and beer. Kids must be over 8 years old to attend, so leave the wee ones at home.
7 ClubFootball for Juniors

8 Oscar-Winning Performances
Beijing Actors Workshop will be holding a voice and stage acting course for junior thespians. Kids ages 8-12 are invited to join in on the fun and
creativity on Sep 26 at the Fu Café in Nanluogu Xiang. This is the first workshop in a 12-week series designed to help kids build confidence, learn writing skills, and develop their public speaking. 9 Bake Up a Storm
Join Lita Tupaz for this popular baking course, designed especially for little ones. Together, parents and kids will learn how make something delicious. Resist the temptation to eat everything you bake, and take some of your creations home for the rest of the family to enjoy. 10 Teachers’ Day
Show your appreciation for your hardworking teachers on Sep 10, the official holiday for celebrating educators. In Chinese schools, students design their own homemade cards for their favorite teachers, and parents make sure to send little ones off to class with a fresh bunch of flowers as a gift from the family. Show that you care and send a little thank you to your child’s school.
