Thu 12 – Jiaozi, only better!
The air is frosty, the trees are snow-covered, and your hands are freezing. There’s only one thing that can cure your winter chills – jiaozi! But not just any old jiaozi will do; you need multicolored parcels filled with beancurd, mushrooms, eggs, carrots and more. Bao Yuan Jiaozi Wu near Solana has just what you’re looking for with a family-friendly dumpling selection and colorful jiaozi wrappings that the kids will love (colors include purple, red and green).
Bao Yuan Jiaozi Wu. Daily 11am- 10.30pm. 6 Maizidian Jie, Chayang District (6586 4967) 宝源饺子屋,朝阳区麦子点街6

Don’t Forget: Chaoyang Park is just next-door if the kids need to burn off some energy after dinner.

Fri 13 – Astro Boy (PG)
Astro Boy is back in this latest version of the Japanese classic. Set in futuristic Metro City, the film follows Astro Boy as he searches for acceptance in a human world. Jam packed with amazing action sequences, kids will be glued to their seats as they watch their hero battle with robot gladiators. This animated film has a great cast, with voices by Samuel L. Jackson, Nicolas Cage, and Charlize Theron.
Playing at Mega Box. The Village, Sanlitun.

Don’t Forget: It’s a Friday night, so why not treat the family to a yummy (and healthy) meal at Element Fresh, or for picky eaters, try the king of sandwich restaurants Panino Teca. Both are located in The Village.

Sat 14: Get your winter wardrobe sorted and your hunger sated
It’s too cold to go wandering through the city, so make it simple and head to The Place for their wide range of family-favorite shopping, eating and playing options. Parents can stock up on plush winter gear at Zara, kids will love the fourth floor play area, and everyone will enjoy eating themselves to a standstill at Golden Jaguar buffet.

Don’t Forget: If it’s bargain basement shopping you’re after, walk 10 minutes south of The Place to Silk Street market for winter essentials like scarves, beanies and “so good they’re almost the real deal” Ugg boots.

Sat 14: 3e I Love Reading Day
Kids can never have enough story time, so give your voice a rest and leave it to 3e to take over for a few hours. Families are invited to spend a fun morning at 3e’s multilingual library to listen to stories in both English and Chinese. What’s more, it’s free!
3e International, Lido (6437 3344) www.3eik.com

Don’t Forget: If your kids are hungry for books, head to The Bookworm in Sanlitun or to Charterhouse Books located in The Place (CBD) or Garden Club House (Shunyi). Their range of English language kids books are sure to impress.

Sun 15: WAB World Run Day
Forget hiding inside this Sunday, embrace the cold weather and head out to WAB’s World Run Day. This ticks all the feel good boxes – get out and about for some exercise while raising money for charity at the same time. Proceeds will go towards two schools for migrant children.
Western Academy of Beijing, Shunyi.

Don’t Forget: Just because it’s cold, it doesn’t mean you don’t need to keep hydrated. Bring lots of water and a good thermal running jacket.
