Beach Holiday for Three

The Travelers:
Veronica Neresoff, Daniel Urdaneta, and their son Andres (1).

The Plan
This family of three was in need of some serious R&R, and a sunny beach in Thailand sounded like just the tonic. They flew from Beijing to Bangkok, and then to Phuket, an island in the south of Thailand. In total the trip took approximately eight hours. Upon landing in Phuket, the family stayed at the Mövenpick Resort & Spa located on beautiful Karon Beach.

 The Best Part
The best part of their trip was being able to spend some valuable family time together. The family beach-hopped their way around the island’s many scenic spots in their rental car, soaking up some sun while little Andres played in the sand. Intent on packing in as many fun activities as possible, Daniel also booked daily boat tours to the surrounding islands.

Weather Report
Though the family struggled to come up with any negatives about their trip, they could have done without the rainy patches that occurred every second day.

Most Unexpected Event
The positive effects of almost two weeks by the beach must have rubbed off on Andres (who was almost 7 months old at the time of the trip), because he started crawling for the first time alongside the hotel pool. He even crawled his way to a beach ball that was being rolled around.

Family-Friendly Features
The hotel they stayed at was very family-friendly. Though Andres was a little too young to join in some of the activities, the hotel contains the largest kids’ play center on Phuket Island, complete with PlayStations, arts and crafts, and even a ball pit. Their hotel room came with a crib for Andres, and Daniel loved the helpful English-speaking staff who were always there to lend a helping hand. The locals were also very hospitable.

Tips
As a general rule, Phuket is a very family-friendly
destination. However, Daniel recommends families with younger kids stay away from Patong Beach, which can get very crowded and tends to attract the party set. Daniel also recommends renting a car in order to get the most out of the island and its many hidden beaches.
