New Principal at 3e
After joining 3e in 2007, Amy Loveday-Hu has recently begun her new role as principal. She has worked in education for the past 11 years across a variety of areas, including special needs, nursery and middle school. She’s lived in Beijing with her husband and daughter for the past six years and is looking forward to many more years in the capital.
The Results Are In for Dulwich
Dulwich College Beijing students took the International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations for the first time in the school’s history, and the results are in. Compared to the world average of around 29.8, one student scored 44 out of a possible 45 and the class average was 36.1.
The House of Knowledge Goes Downtown

New Co-Principal at YCIS Beijing
Wayne Richardson has joined YCIS Beijing as the Western Co-Principal and will be working alongside the Chinese Co-Principal, Christine Xu. Richardson comes to YCIS Beijing from his previous role as Western Co-Principal at the YCIS Shanghai Hongqiao campus. With over 20 years of international teaching and school administration experience, Richardson is settling into Beijing with his wife Samantha and their two primary-aged children.

French for "Little Pea," Le Petit Pois will delight any parent who thinks fashion awareness ought to start early – from ages 3 to 6, to be exact. Already well-established in Hong Kong, this Canadian children’s clothing brand is also slated for rapid expansion in Beijing, with three openings in Leyou stores in just three months and several more to come in the future. The apparel is made of imported materials from Italy and France, so not only do they look functional and chic, they’re also soft and durable. Their latest collection features trendy floral tanks and gingham dresses for girls, and plaid shirts and cuffed khaki pants for boys. Pieces to note include a red-checkered shirt with puffed sleeves and a mandarin collar (RMB 250) and military-green shorts (RMB 250). Chang and Biorck is a funky Scandinavian design store. Well known for their use of up-lifting signature patterns and colors, they also dedicate themselves to long-term environmental sustainability. All products in their collection use low impact dyes printed on organic cotton. Designer Sara Ödman has created a charming collection of children’s clothes inspired by birds and Beijing’s tree-filled parks. A practical and adorable hooded towel will set you back just over RMB 100, while a kiddy-sized kimono costs RMB 150. They also stock home accessories, we love their star patterned lime green and white cushions (around RMB 340).

Look Out For
Karen Patterson has recently sold Counting Sheep, Beijing’s much-loved baby gear and maternity wear store, to Michelle Hemsin, owner of Bohdi, and Eyee Hsu, CCTV9 presenter. Hemsin and Hsu plan on opening a brand new Sanlitun location later this month, so keep your eyes peeled and your wallets ready. In the meantime, Counting Sheep’s Shunyi location, as well as their online store, is still open for business.

PetSmart, America’s largest retailer of pet products and services, operates on this side of the globe under the name Lee Pet. Its Chaowai Soho branch is now Beijing’s largest pet store, offering not only a diverse range of imported products, but also in-house grooming (RMB 20-50), photography (from RMB 100) and kennel services (from RMB 50/day).
