Hear from Wu Qing how she became one of the leading social changemakers in China, tackling poverty issues of rural women and other issues. Organized by Foundation for Youth Social Entrepreneurship (FYSE) and held at the Compassion for Migration Children office in Beijing, this is a great event in which to hear Wu Qing share her valuable experiences and to mingle with like-minded people.
About the speaker
Wu Qing is the daughter of the famous Chinese writer Bing Xin 冰心 and social activist Wu Wen Zao 吴文藻. She worked as an English professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University for 40 years from 1960-2000, and has been actively promoting human rights and women’s rights in China since the mid-1980’s. In 1984, Wu Qing became a deputy to the Haidian District People’s Congress and is now serving her 7th term at the district level. She has also founded and supported numerous training centers for rural women.In 2001 the Philippine government awarded her the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service, or "Asia’s Nobel Prize", and was nominated by the Schwab Foundation Network in 2003 as one of the World’s Outstanding Social Entrepreneurs.
