On August 26, The Inaugural Parents’ Assembly of Wellington College International Tianjin began with a warm welcome from Second Master Mr. Murray Fowler. There were also flute, piano, Chinese piano (guzheng) and opera performances by Wellington family members. Director of Studies, Dr. Steven Jacobi, along with two senior students, performed “Notes from the Crow’s Nest.” And a big crowd-pleaser was Miss Georgina Chakos singing Soprano Vocal Ana Vissi D’Arle G. Puccini.
As the first overseas branch of Wellington College UK, Wellington College International Tianjin was created in Tianjin with a French Grand Rococo-style. Its 35,000sqm campus is home to a main building, a sports center and field and classrooms for years pre-school to Year 12. With over 200 new students, four of the traditional in-college houses (Orange, Wellesley, Stanley and Blücher) have ample representation.
The school’s first semester began on Monday, August 22 this year. But with the ability to serve 1,500 students, the school still welcomes enrollment. As Chair of the Board Joy Qiao said, “Education is not the only thing here, but everything here.”
