With Halloween just around the corner, all of the kids who look forward to this event each year – and even those who are new to it — are getting very excited! Decorations, costumes and events mark the occasion, and several of our many compounds are getting in the spirit, too. Not all activities are open to the public, so check with your management office for specific details.
*River Garden: Known as the biggest when it comes to Halloween celebrations, this year is certainly no different. On Saturday, October 29, the clubhouse is turned into a haunted house – early hours (4:30-5:30pm) with the lights on for the little ones; later hours (6:30-8:30pm) with scary spooks for the bravest! RG residents simply show residence cards for admittance; non-residents pay RMB 10. This year, the compound developers will match the money raised and donate it to the Qing Hai 7.1 magnitude earthquake victims. Considering last year there were 4,500 kids through the haunted house, — yes, 4,500!! — it’s a great way to have fun and contribute towards a good cause at the same time. Trick or treating in the compound begins at 5:30pm.
Yosemite is doing it up right this year, too! On Sunday, October 30 purchased tickets offer a buffet at 6pm, trick or treating from 6-7pm, pumpkin carving from 7-8, and a photo session and haunted house from 6:30-8pm. Member ticket prices are RMB 188/98; non-member prices are RMB 218/118, and advance purchase discounts are available.
*Grand Hills will have trick or treating hours on Sunday, October 30 from 4:30-5:30pm. Leman Lake will have it both on Sunday, October 30 and Monday, October 31 beginning at 6 p.m. Capital Paradise and Beijing Riviera usually have trick or treating hours, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. The only compounds that say they will not participate in Halloween events are Gahood, Chateau Regalia and Rose & Ginko. If you know of others – either who are or are not hosting Halloween events – please post the information in the comments section below.

*Several bothersome reports of robberies are in our “safe” Shunyi compounds. Personally, I’ve heard of one in River Garden, four in Grand Hills, and several in Lane Bridge, Beijing Riviera and Gahood. What’s going on? Keep an eye out for suspect behavior in your neighborhoods, and stay safe.
