All this month, we’ll be introducing 50 picks for some of the best family-friendly restaurants in Beijing. These reviews originally appeared in the January/February 2013 issue of beijingkids (see end of post).
Type of cuisine: American, Mexican, Tex-Mex
English menu? Yes, very extensive English menu
General kid-friendliness of menu: Very kid-friendly. There is a very wide range of dishes on the menu. Items aren’t overly spicy, and portions from the regular menu aren’t enormous, so kids can easily order from the regular menu.
Best dishes for adults: Adults with a hankering for Tex-Mex have a large number of choices, including the pulled pork quesadilla (RMB 52), the beef enchilada (RMB 79), or the chili chicken rellenos (RMB 56).
Kids’ menu? Yes
Best dishes for kids: Kids who don’t want to order Tex-Mex or want smaller portions of straightforward kids food can enjoy macaroni and cheese (RMB 28), a kid-sized hamburger (RMB 29), or an appetizer of taquitos (RMB 42 for 6). Kids will also love the flurries, notably the Snickers flurry (RMB 36).
Kids’ play area? There is a kids area just inside to the left of the door. It’s a small, carpeted alcove with lots of stuffed animals and a few basic toys. It is fairly clean, but not closely monitored by staff.

Kid-friendly staff? Yes, English-speaking and attentive
Bathroom: Very clean and brightly decorated, sit-down; there is also a child-sized toilet in the women’s restroom and a changing table.
Seating: The downstairs has booths and tables with comfy couch chairs. The upstairs has larger tables with regular chairs. There is also an outdoor dining area for fair weather. Highchairs are available.

In a nutshell: Peter’s Tex-Mex is a cheery, ultra family-friendly restaurant that’s great for satisfying Tex-Mex cravings or multiple family get-togethers. Everyone is guaranteed to be pleased with the extensive menu, which ranges from breakfast and standard Tex-Mex to pizza, pasta, and a large dessert menu, which includes cakes, milkshakes, and flurries. Peter’s also offers delivery and catering.
