House of Knowledge to Open New Quanfa Campus
House of Knowledge (HoK) is pleased to announce the opening of their newest campus. Opening in September 2013, the 5,000sqm facilities in Shunyi will include a football field, running track, indoor pool, playground, rooftop basketball courts, a library, modern classrooms, children’s kitchen and more. Programs will be available for
children 10 months to 6 years old and follow HoK’s custom-designed curriculum taught in English, German and Chinese. After the completion of renovations, the facilities will also open a brand-new primary school for the 2014-15 academic year. More information can be found on their website.
Daystar Academy Hosts Free Toddler Playgroup
Every Wednesday from 9-10.30am, Daystar Academy’s kindergarten hosts a toddler playgroup for families with children 3 years old and under. This is a free program designed to bring together parents and children from the community. The morning will start with free play using Montessori materials, followed by stories and songs led by Daystar teachers in Chinese and English. A snack will also be provided by the school. That’s Mandarin Expands Scope of Chinese Summer Camp
That’s Mandarin has added a new element to its Chinese Summer Camp 2013. As well as a program of intensive Chinese, cultural trips, and activities, there will be opportunities for campers to learn and play with local children through school visits and organized trips and activities, such as calligraphy and paper cutting. Day and full-time campers can enjoy this new social and interactive factor, which will also be available as an additional activity for morning campers. Element Fresh Opens in Solana
Popular salad, sandwich, and smoothie eatery Element Fresh opened its new location on Solana’s Lakeside Dining Street on March 25. Established in Shanghai, Element Fresh has a total of 14 locations in China and focuses on healthy food cooked with minimal oil and no MSG. The Solana location is one of four branches, the other of which are in Sanlitun Village, Lido, and Indigo Mall (opening late 2013).

YCIS Beijing Students Get Prestigious University Offers
This year, several of Yew Chung International School Beijing’s Year 13 students have received offers from world-class universities, including the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. Sherry Gu is set to study economics at the University of Michigan, while Daisy Chau will pursue her dream course of art history at University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), an Ivy League that was her number one choice. BISS Student Places in Speech Tournament
Beijing BISS International School Grade 8 student Edward Lee earned second place at the Beijing City International School (BCIS) speech tournament on March 25. Edward wrote his speech about the removal of wrestling from the Olympic Games, and one judge commented that the speech was “quite interesting and well-crafted.”
DCB Student Receive CIS International Student Awards
Dulwich College Beijing congratulates Jenny Xie, Kim Fong and Nicol Lo for their outstanding work as founders and leaders of Beacons of Hope, a student-run charity supporting children of migrant workers. The Council of International Schools recognized their “contribution to the development and advancement of internationalism” by presenting the students with International Student Awards this March. In conjunction with three local corporate sponsors, which the students negotiated and secured entirely by themselves, Beacons of Hope was able to provide comprehensive medical, dental and optical exams for several hundred students from the Xinxin Migrant School.
