The English Tearoom knows kids. Both Co-Founder Jennie Grierson and Manager Steven Hirst are UK-qualified teachers who specialize in primary and secondary education respectively.
Grierson is also a mom of two, which is reflected in all the restaurant’s carefully-designed family-friendly touches. These include a playroom with regularly rotated toys, low children’s tables, highchairs and booster seats, imported kids’ cutlery and bowls, children’s books, coloring pages, and a baby area with mats and bouncy chairs. The menu features an entire page of children’s dishes, such as Marmite soldiers (RMB 10/20), cheese on teddy toast (RMB 15/30), and hidden vegetable pasta (RMB 25/45). Parents and teens will also find plenty to love in The English Tearoom’s quintessential British offerings, including the towering shepherd’s pie (RMB 78), classic fish and chips (RMB 60/88), and breakfast plates (RMB 35-98). Grab a friend and indulge in the all-day afternoon tea (RMB 240) featuring an ever-changing selection of sandwiches, mini Scotch eggs, pastries, buttery scones with jam and cream, and a pot of tea. The English Tearoom offers teas from PG Tips, Twinings, and boutique label Teapigs. The restaurant can also host or cater birthday parties and private events, and regularly holds family-friendly activities.
