Ivy Academy Receives Award for Most Distinguished Private Kindergarten
On Saturday, April 20, Ivy Academy was honored as “Most Distinguished Private Kindergarten” at the second Private Kindergarten Conference for Campus Directors. The conference was hosted by the Pre-School Education Committee of the Chinese Association for Non-Government Education and the China Song Qing Ling Foundation Development Center. Chinese Campus Director Zhao Baoshen received the award on behalf of the school, and expressed Ivy Schools’ appreciation for the recognition and support of the committee, and pledged to continue to provide premier early childhood education.
Daystar Academy Welcomes New Performing Arts Coordinator
Daystar Academy is delighted to welcome Janice Aulicino as the new performing arts coordinator, starting this fall. Aulicino, originally from the US, will create a performing arts program that immerses students in dance, theater, and music. The program will evolve with the children as they explore the arts with a blend of classical and modern styles. Aulicino looks forward to integrating performing arts into Daystar’s program to further develop their goals of creativity, character development, and critical thinking.
BSB Wins Trophy in Robotics
On Saturday, May 11, The British School of Beijing (BSB) won the trophy for Robotics in the third annual Beijing International School First Lego League competition, held at BSB. There are four sections to the competition: robotics, a team challenge, real-world problem solving, and a question and answer session. This year’s competition theme revolved around helping a growing aging population. Four international schools in Beijing have already signed up for next year’s competition. YCIS Beijing Student Receives Exclusive Music Scholarship
Sarah Quan, a Year 12 student from the US at Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS), was awarded a full scholarship to the Kennedy Center/National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute in Washington D.C. Quan is one of approximately 70 other students from the US to be accepted into the Summer Music Institute (SMI). The intensive program includes four weeks of private lessons, rehearsals,lectures, and classes with members of the National Symphony Orchestra to prepare aspiring musicians for a future music career. “I will have the chance to work side by side with [a]professional orchestra, a truly unique experience. Furthermore, professional musicians will teach us how to manage a career in music and how to market ourselves and work with promoters,” says Quan.
Eliott’s Corner Extends Services to Tianjin
Beginning this fall, Eliott’s Corner will extend its therapy services to the residents of Tianjin. Eliott’s Corner is a pediatric therapy center based in Beijing that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychology services to children from birth to age 18. That’s Mandarin Introduces Ayi Communication Workshop
That’s Mandarin is hosting a monthly Ayi Communication workshop for parents. It’s an opportunity for parents to discuss the pros and cons of having an ayi and to learn Mandarin needed to help with future communications. The workshops will cover key words, cultural differences, and open discussion about health and safety issues. Children are also welcome to partake in language-focused arts, crafts, and games that will be provided during the workshop. BCIS Student Awarded Summer Scholarship to Berklee
A Beijing City International School (BCIS) Grade 11 student from South Korea, Donghee Kim was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the US for a five-week summer performance program. Kim says: “The scholarship for Berklee means everything to me, because it is the very first scholarship I’ve got from a college, especially my dream college. I look forward to developing myself [as a]musician, and am hoping to come back as a senior with greater effort, confidence, experiences, and passion in music.”
