Nobody likes waking up in the morning, but things must get done. It’s back-to-school time, which early mornings for both parents and kids. If you don’t trust yourself or the kids to get up after a few pushes of the “snooze” button, consider getting one of the following unusual alarm clocks (that you’ll probably love to hate).
Clocky Robotic Alarm
Do your kids think robots are cool? Have your little sleepy head wake up by running after a small, swift, noisy robot that won’t stop beeping until it’s caught. Great for heavy sleepers!
The Original Clocky Robotic Alarm is available on Amazon for USD 35.01, but similar ones can be found on Taobao for around RMB 50.
Flying Alarm Clock
If you think you or your children can sleep through a noisy robot, test yourself with the Flying Alarm Clock. As soon as the alarm rings, the key inserted through the top will be propelled in the air; the only way to stop the blaring sound is to put the key back in.
The Original Flying Alarm Clock is available for USD 11.42 on Amazon and similar ones can be found on Taobao for around RMB 80.
Shape Up Alarm Clock
If the Clocky Robotic Alarm sounds too stressful for mornings, try the Shape Up Alarm Clock. You have to lift the heavy little friend 30 times to stop the alarm from ringing. However, only buy this one only if you have the motivation to fulfill this daily task – or you will find yourself throwing it away or relegating it to the corner of you room (just like your regular dumbbells).
Carpet Alarm Clock
This one’s fairly self-explanatory; the only way to turn this one off is to physically get up and stand up on it.
This one costs USD 99 on Amazon. (If you fail to use this as an alarm clock, you’ve just paid almost USD 100 for a mattress!)
Throw Alarm Clock
OK, enough torture! If your alarm is driving you into a rage, the good news is that a brilliant alarm clock was designed for the user to inflict violence. It turns off once you bounce or throw it against something.
Get it for USD 24.95 on Amazon.
Self-Abuse Alarm Apps
What did we miss? The free ones, of course. I downloaded a Chinese app called Zilvenaozhong (自虐闹钟), which translates to “self-abuse alarm clock” for Android. It allows you to set up different levels of challenge. For the intermediate level, I had to shake the phone violently 15 times to shut it up.
