Mao Zedong will appear as a cartoon character in the film When Mao Zedong Was Young. The animated feature has been selected to be one of the three films celebrating Mao’s 120th birthday anniversary, which is approaching in December. Neddless to say, this is a significant step in the portrayal of the late Chairman, who’s solemnity is so revered, that any tarnishing of his figure is regarded as highly taboo by regulators.
The story follows Mao as a teenager and his dreams for the nation. His portrayal is intended to ere more on the human side, showing audiences that he was like any other adolescent, playing jokes and getting into trouble. One of the story’s main undercurrents is Xi Jingpin’s Chinese Dream slogan which is exemplified by how Mao left his hometown to realize his dream.
