There are many career choices available to 16-18 year olds as they decide whether to study at university, what to study and where to study.  King’s College London Summer School is launching a pre-university Summer School in Beijing this August to help prepare them as they take their next step in academic life.

“The Pre-University Summer School has renewed a sense of determination in me to work doubly hard for the A Levels and be offered a place at the University to study Law”.  Valerie Tan, Singapore Summer School London

It is a great summer opportunity for students to expand their personal and academic horizons and prepare them for a global stage. The programme is academically intensive and offers courses in maths, physics and business & management. The courses can help students to build on their existing knowledge of the subject area or prepare them to study something new at university-level. They offer key study skills which help to bridge the gap between school and university and offer a balanced learning experience at a crucial time in every students’ life.

Michael Bedward, MBA the tutor on course in Business & Management says of the course

“The course is highly participatory. Students will be expected to discuss and debate different corporate and entrepreneurial management approaches as well as reflect on their own managerial and or entrepreneurial potential through a range of self-assessment tests. Students will develop a range of skills (e.g. self-confidence, public speaking, leadership, time management) that will support both their individual academic aspirations and their long –term career aspirations.”

The programme brings together two established organisations, Harrow International Beijing and King’s College London.  King’s is one of the top 20 universities in the world (2013/14 QS World University Rankings) and the fourth oldest in England. It is part of the Russell Group and is ranked in the top five universities for Graduate employment (UK) in the Complete University Guide 2014. It has played a major role in many of the advances that have shaped modern life, such as the discovery of the structure of DNA and research that led to the development of radio, television, mobile phones and radar.

Tayyeb Shah, Director of International Strategy at King’s, said: “The King’s Pre-University Programme helps school students develop into self-confident young people who will make informed choices about their academic future. The course aims to equip them with cutting-edge knowledge and study skills which are crucial for a head start of their higher education studies internationally."

Harrow International Beijing prides itself on its high academic standards,  its close-knit school community,  its rich extra-curricular activity programme and the quality of its pastoral care provision. Each year graduates of Harrow Beijing win places at leading Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom, including King’s College London, as well as at Ivy League schools in the United States of America.
