For the Chinese, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunion, symbolized by the roundness of the moon when it is at its fullest. Though the official holiday was yesterday, BCIS invites the Beijing community to join in a belated celebration at their Mid-Autumn Festival this Saturday from 5pm to 8pm.
Attendees can participate in a slew of family-friendly games and activities, eight in total, with stickers given upon completion of each game. When all eight games are complete, kids will receive a prize BCIS has made for the occasion. Activities also include a photo booth, making dough figures, solving lantern riddles, making paper rockets, and more. A program of performances by BCIS students and outside performers is also scheduled to take place and will include Chinese dance, performance of traditional instruments, poetry recitals, and more.
In keeping with traditional festival culture, the food selection will include Chinese cuisine but the selection will also vary with vendors such as Blue Lake Restaurant (Korean) and Loft Eatalicious (Italian) on hand.
An important element to the Mid-Autumn Festival is the lighting of the lanterns ceremony, which will be celebrated at 6:40pm. Lanterns and electronic candles will be available and distributed before the ceremony begins and BCIS will turn on the lights of the school’s gingko tree for the occasion.
The Mid-Autumn Festival will take place at BCIS’ main campus. The festival marks their first event open to the community in the 2014-2015 school year. Non-members of the BCIS community, please remember to bring a valid from of ID to gain entrance to the campus (passport copy, Chinese ID, etc).
