Once again beijingkids is pulling out all the stops to make their 9th Halloween Costume Party the best ever. Expect to be spooked and have fun with trick-or-treating, a haunted house, pumpkin carving, face painting, and a costume parade. Every year has been a sell-out, so get your tickets early. International Newcomers Network (INN) is hosting its 1st Halloween Family Brunch, at Marriott Hotel Northeast, from 11.30am-2.30pm. The kids can enjoy cookie baking, movies, jumping castle, and a kids-only-buffet. Special pricing and seating for INN members who register before October 20. RMB 250 per person (normal price RMB 388) for brunch buffet, beer, and wine, add champagne for RMB 350 (normal price RMB 488). RMB 100 for kid’s age 6-12 years, below 6 are free. Costumes optional, but highly encouraged!

If you’re not keen on the scary side of Halloween, prepare for it by indulging in advance in all of the treats with none of the tricks. In honor of this festival of ghosts and ghouls, Juice by Melissa will be serving a cold-pressed Pumpkin Spiced Rum cocktail on their weekly ladies’ night. Buy one, and get a free pumpkin to carve.

This year EAST Hotel is putting on a spooky good Halloween brunch especially for the kids. Come dressed in your Halloween costume and win prizes while you eat. Trick or treat for candy with the Feast (Food by EAST) team and get your face painted at the children’s corner. They’ll be choosing one boy and one girl every hour to win the Best Costume prizes. 11.30am-3pm, RMB 238 per person (+15% service charge). Kids age under 6 dine for free aged 6-11 are half price. Root out Beijing’s spookier side with this special edition of Hidden City. Discover the secrets of Beijing, complete the activities, use clues in the street or historical sites to check-off answers, and return to the target location on time. “Matrix” is holding their annual Halloween Dinner at Crowne Plaza Lido. With a scary ghost show, pumpkin carving, Halloween costume competition, plus a live band performance. RMB 388. 5.30pm.
The Conrad’s pastry chef Teresa Ma and her team of cake bosses have been hard at work crafting festive sweet treats. Their Halloween High Tea is served daily from 1-5.30pm. RMB 198 per person (plus service charge).
Join in the fun at the 7th Annual Halloween Jack-o-Lantern Carving Contest at The Schoolhouse from 2pm. Select a pumpkin and decorate or carve it. The creations will be displayed and lit up as jack-o-lanterns at the end of the day and will be judged by the Schoolhouse team. The winning Child or Teen will receive a gift certificate for RMB 688 for purchases at The Schoolhouse. The winning Adult will receive a gift certificate for a free night and breakfasts at the Brickyard for two people. Free. 2pm.
beijingkids Shunyi Correspondent Sally Wilson moved to Beijing in 2010 from the UK with her husband and son. Her daughter was born here in 2011 and both her kids keep her happily busy.
