Goat’s milk infant formula, coconut oil, and paw paw ointment are but a few of the organic products that Jessica Rudd sells in China. The daughter of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd (Australia’s first Mandarin speaking head of state) is quickly becoming a star entrepreneur in the Middle Kingdom with her export company, Jessica’s Suitcase.
A recent Daily Mail article about the Aussie businesswoman’s success in China linked to a Jessica’s Suitcase promotional video, on which the Former First Daughter explained (in both English and Mandarin) her inspiration for selling the organic products: “I know what it’s like to be a mum in China. I lived there for five years, my little girl is three. And I was worried when I looked outside at the pollution.
Those efforts are not only paying off financially: Jessica Rudd now has more than 20,000 followers on Weibo, and counts none other than Alibaba founder Jack Ma among her admirers. She sells her wares on Alibaba sister site Tmall.
A China Daily article quoted Kevin Rudd’s congratulatory message to his daughter on Weibo: “Good to see my daughter open an online store in Tmall and sell Australian specialties.” That story also noted that Jessica lived in Beijing for five years and is married to Hong Kong native Albert Tse.
