Don’t get me wrong, I love sunlight. It’s the cheapest happy maker in the world. But if it wakes my child or prevents her from sleeping, I absolutely hate the sun. I even tend to get a bit aggressive; one time I nailed the curtains to the walls so no sunlight could wake my precious child. I always sleep with a mask on as I love to get some shuteye in the dark. But since putting a sleeping mask on a four year old is not the most child friendly approach, I have had to resort to different solutions.
Ikea Blackout Curtains
I have tried and tested these. They work, but the fit has to be tight, hence me nailing this set of curtains to the wall. They come in several colors and don’t break the bank. Visit your local IKEA to see the range of options.
Ikea Blackout Roller Blind
These require drilling, but are a better solution than actual curtains. For me personally it’s still not ideal but every little helps. I am all about that layering. Again, your friendly neighborhood IKEA is the place to go.
Shading Glass Stickers
This is a solution I have just bought and it is by far the easiest to apply: just cut to size and stick to the window. My toddler helped. And the room is blacker than black. Not so great if you like sunlight during the waking hours, but you can’t have it all. I ordered mine and within a day it was in my home. Find it here.
Gro Anywhere Blackout Blind
I have also tried and tested this product. It’s hit and miss; the idea is nice but if you have kids that like to destroy stuff be aware that this will come down. And it’s worse if it comes down in the middle of the night. But it’s a nice option to take on holidays. Find it here.
