Not-So-Real Geniuses
Bad news for parents who think that plopping your baby in front of a TV will somehow develop their intellect -- The New York Times reports that the Walt Disney Company is now offering refunds for "all those Baby Einstein videos that didn't make children into geniuses."
The announcement is vindication for parents and child development experts who have long contended that the videos "featuring music, puppets and bright colors" are of no educational value whatsoever, a position that counters the producers and distributors' earliest claims.

"According to the article, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under two years old stay away from watching screens. In the letter threatening Disney with a class-action lawsuit for "deceptive advertising," public health lawyers hired by Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood cited a study which found a link between early television exposure and later problems with attention span."
What's unclear in all this is what differences, if any, length and frequency of exposure makes (i.e. a kid who watches 15 min a day vs. an hour a day)
