World Cup Mania
With the commencement of the World Cup in South Africa, fans have found creative ways to support their favorite teams. Zany examples include an aquarium in Japan that uses colored fish to play out soccer matches and an enthusiastic German website that recreates matches using Lego pieces and stop motion animation.
However, this love of sport extends beyond those of us on earth and has even reached outer space. Astronauts living on the International Space Station participated in this newfound sports obsession, showing off their zero-gravity soccer skills. While orbiting the earth, Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin admitted that as a child he dreamt of being a soccer player in this international tournament. It seems World Cup Mania has truly struck globally and no one on (or off) the planet is untouched.
