LA Times: "San Gabriel shuts down makeshift maternity ward catering to 'birthing tourism'"

I've been spending a lot of time in California as of late and came across this piece of news in The LA Times and on tv:
"Officials shut down a makeshift maternity ward, where pregnant Chinese nationals stayed before and after giving birth in San Gabriel. Authorities say it was part of a crackdown on "maternity tourism," where foreigners pay to have their babies born in the U.S.
In one San Gabriel neighborhood, investigators said pregnant Asian women paid $35,000 each to come to the U.S. to give birth. Most of the pregnant women were Chinese who are legally restricted to the number of children they can have in China.
When police and city officials entered the buildings, they found seven infants and several pregnant women. There were closets that had been turned into bathrooms."
