Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who's the (Temple) Fairest of Them All?
- 294 reads

If you’re going to be in Beijing over the Chinese New Year holidays (like me), take the opportunity to visit a temple fair. Temple fairs (or miaohui) are traditional celebrations replete with religious ceremonies, folk performances, traditional crafts (such as paper cutting and scroll writing), vendors hawking toys and kitsch, and scrumptious snack stalls. They usually take place at temples and parks, but several international schools also organize their own. Click through for a rundown of 2012 temple fairs. Be prepared: temple fairs can get very crowded during the holidays.

Roundabout News

Where do you donate your gently used clothing, toys and household goods when there is no Roundabout location? Well, Roundabout! Yes, they are still accepting donations even though they temporarily have no place to call “home,” and they are continuing to make plans in 2012 to distribute to charities all around. With colder temperatures and Chinese New Year right around the corner, please don’t forget to clean out your closets, giving your un-needed items to those who can use them.
Racing for the Gold at the Track Cycling World Cup

The glitz of the 2008 Olympics may be long gone, but Beijing still brings in some world-class athletic competitions. Professional cycling is one sport that continues to benefit from the city’s sports infrastructure. From 13-15 January 2012, Beijing will host the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics at the Laoshan Velodrome. I had a blast during the 2008 Olympics, but I’m looking especially forward to the World Cup Classics because I actually know one of the athletes from the USA, Dean Tracy.

The tree-lighting ceremony will take place in the lobby of BJU Building 2 (the new wing of the hospital). Come and see the beautiful Christmas tree, listen to a children’s choir, and receive presents from Santa. The ceremony will last from 4-5.30pm, so stop by and get into the seasonal spirit.
