Shunyi Happenings: Music and More!

Come enjoy a free music concert at Euro Plaza this Saturday from 3-6pm. Claire’s Music Studio will hold its 2012 Student Recital, allowing students to sing or play their chosen instrument in this public setting. A collective CD will be available for purchase shortly after the concert date. Claire’s Music Studio often presents recitals and concerts benefitting various charities in and around our area. The professionalism and popularity of this particular studio draws beginning and accomplished music students from all over. Stop by and enjoy the recital on the first floor this weekend!


Shunyi Happenings: Expo Center Traffic Woes

Another convention at the International Exposition Center means that there is insane traffic in our area. Just driving home is a nightmare, not to mention going to and from schools or attempting to park at Euro Plaza. Today I saw traffic gridlock with two lanes--out of three--completely blocked by parked taxis waiting for expo patrons. I am sure there is a logical explanation (!), but can someone tell me why expo attendees are not forced to use the ginormous parking lot that is actually AT the Expo Center?!

Chinese New Year is upon us, ready to ring in the year of the dragon! While temple fairs around the city are highly anticipated for next week, this week many international schools are planning student celebrations for their school communities: Dulwich College Beijing celebrates today from 10am-3pm; Harrow International School Beijing has a celebration for the Lower School on Thursday from 1-3:30pm, and for the Upper school on Friday from noon-3:30pm; The British School of Beijing features a Chinese New Year Assembly on Friday from 9:15-11:45am; and the International School of Beijing celebrates all day on Friday from 9am-3pm (school divisions at different times). It’s a great time to appreciate Chinese culture, traditions, and festivals!

With Thanksgiving just around the corner and bazaar season upon us, check out all of the events and opportunities going on in our neighborhood.

*The November INN meeting will be this Thursday the 17th from 10am-noon at Mrs. Shanen’s Bagels & Café. Come find out what neighbors know about our Shunyi area – all are welcome!

*Don’t forget the Roundabout Book Fair, on Saturday, November 19 from 10am-3pm at the British Rego School. Hugely successful in the past, this now serves at the only fundraiser for Roundabout until they find another retail location. Pick up some great gifts and great reads, while supporting Roundabout Charities at the same time.
