A Day At Crab Island

Of the many places in Beijing to visit, Crab Island has been on my list for a long time. And last week, on a cloudy day, my friends and I decide to make that trek. From 3rd Ring Road, the cab ride was about RMB 40. It might have been less if there was no traffic, but alas, it was the weekend.

There were many fantastic camps available for kids of all ages this summer, keeping your children active and happy while staying in Beijing.  One camp was so successful that they’ve decided to keep the program going all school year long.  Read on to find out how your children can take advantage of this great club.

People's Daily: Water quality "mostly safe" in Beijing's swimming pools

The People's Daily reports that officials from the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau are touting a dramatic improvement in public swimming pool water quality standards over last year, when only "57.43 percent of pools in Beijing met water quality standards."

The bureau has been administering inspections on pools since June, and the report cites a Beijing Daily article that says of the 34 pools tested in Fengtai District, eight of them received an 'A' rating, the highest quality health and safety rating, 18 were rated as 'B,' six as 'C' and two pools were "too bad to be graded."

Water Cube’s Indoor Water Park Due to Open Aug 8

Finally something worth going to at the Olympic Park? The Water Cube’s indoor water park, which we initially blogged about back in May, has entered the final stage of construction and is set to open on August 8, according to today’s China Daily.

Gleaming the Cube: Beijing's Newest Waterpark

The Olympic Games may be long gone but a nagging uncertainty over what to do with the iconic Birds Nest, which has gone from waidi tourist attraction, to would-be football stadium, possible shopping mall and a temporary Snow and Ice World has lingered ever since.

Quickie Link: Tuanjiehu Water Park

BeijingDaze offers this little family friendly outing suggestion (and pics):

"closest sand & water combo, depending on where you live in the city is within a 5 to 20mn ride or a 2 mn walk from the Hou Jia Lou subway station on line 10… yup, it’s there and I got the pictures to prove it ... This little gem hides inside Tuan Jie Hu park, across from Oakwood center off of the 3rd ring road in Beijing. This inconspicuous little gates on the outside hide a marvel of a park complete with lakes, boats, bumper cars, skating ring and more importantly, an artificial wave pool with real sand!"

We popped in ourselves last Saturday with tots in tow, but were deterred by the rain and freezing water. Nevertheless, Tuanjiehu Park is indeed one of the most accessible and family friendly water parks in the greater Sanlitun/CBD area.
