Fast Food Free

Earth Day may have passed, but you can still do your part to save the environment. And it's never too late to start eating smart. Twelve-year-old Koa Halpern, who started his own nonprofit organization, encourages everyone to eat healthier by boycotting fast food. Visit his organization Fast Food Free here and his blog post on Fooducate here. His aim is to encourage people to stay away from fast food, because it is better for our health AND the environment.

Early Puberty Rates Cause for Alarm in China

Check out this article from Xinhuanet.com:

Children in China's main cities are reaching puberty too early - a condition known as sexual precocity - and at a much higher rate than those in Western countries.

A Beijing doctor, who runs the city's first sexual precocity clinic, said her research into the condition showed that in Shanghai, the rate was as high as 1 percent.

Dr. Mom: Natural Ways to Beat Pinkeye

My son has been home from school with pinkeye for a few days now. It must be going around because there were other children in his classroom who also had it. But what exactly is pinkeye, and how bad can it be?

Pinkeye (it even sounds kind of cute) is usually not serious, just irritating. It's an inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye -- the thin protective membrane that covers the eyeball and the eyelids. That’s why the medical term is conjunctivitis. Here is a good website that describes the various types of conjunctivitis and explains when to see your pediatrician or M.D. Since I am currently dealing with a viral pinkeye let’s talk about conjunctivitis due to infection.
