Searching the World for the Perfect Science Museum

Evan Predavec writes for Wired magazine's geekdad blog. He's currently on a world tour with his family and has devoted some of the trip to finding the world's best science museum. Guess what? So far the Beijing Science and Technology Museum is in the top three!
Here's what Predavec has to say about it:
"Like everything in China these days, the Beijing Science and Technology Museum is enormous, imposing and extremely well produced. The English explanations were sometimes a little light, but that generally took nothing away from a huge and fascinating array of exhibits. After visiting a lot of science museums you begin to recognize the old favorite displays from 50 feet away—Beijing was different with a great range of novel displays and twists on old ideas."
Tagged as 'raising geek generation 2.0', the geekdad blog is what you'd expect: a lot of robots, fathers playing experimental rock in lab coats, and useful news for geeks of all ages.

Re: Searching the World for the Perfect Science Museum
Right..... took a visit there last Saturday and it was definitely worth the 30 for the main museum and 30 for the kids science area, its an impressive building and has a huge amount of things on display. Now the other news.... being clued up on science will help but if not head for the areas where you do know about what's on display "Yes son that's where the people go" etc.....
The museum is pretty much all in Chinese but very well displayed. It is a science museum although it would have been nicer to see some of the actual equipment (Science museum London).... cars etc... but principals appear to be its forte.
Word to the wise with kids, some of the 'hands on' displays (including in the kids area) are spring loaded or have possibility to injure, my little one walked in a space station mock up and slipped down a badly lit dark brown step that was actually a very steep shiny slope, luckily no injuries but a ridiculous concept for a public area nonetheless.
Its a fun place...keep em close!
