Ever wished dumplings had exteriors to match their mysteriously exciting fillings? Then head to Baoyuan for a healthful rainbow of dumplings, their dough dyed with vegetable and fruit such as spinach, carrot, blueberry and grape. The dumplings are wrapped in a yuanbao (silver ingot) shape, and are larger and fuller than crescent-shaped dumplings. An order of six dumplings is generally under RMB 10 – and scrumptious. Particularly creative vegetarian options pack in smoked beancurd, celery, mushrooms, eggs, chives, cabbage, carrots and cellophane noodles. Tables are often full but turnover is high, so you won't have to wait too long. Traditionally dressed waitstaff are a bit overly attentive, but accommodating.

A dizzying array of cheap dumplings
Review of: Baoyuan Jiaozi Wu
I've been to Baoyuan Jiaozi Wu 3 or 4 times now, and the dumplings are just as fat and delicious as ever. It's hard to know what to choose since their bilingual menu is huge and also includes Chinese dishes. Some of my favorite dumplings include the smoked meat and pickled turnip, beef and celery, and cellophane noodles with chives and mushrooms. For three people, we found that eight liang (两) was just right. This place is both vegetarian- and family-friendly.
