Merry Water World - mini review
Review of: Merry Water World
We went to the Tulip Hot Spring Garden Resort Merry Water World today.
Details, map and photos here: http://www.bjyujinxiang.com/
It is about 20 minutes from ChaoYang Park/Lido Area, and maybe about 15 from the main villa area of Shunyi. (coincidentally it is also near Beijing Color Studio!).
The day pass cost 138 rmb (but prices might vary, so do check)
The complex is huge - hotel, villas, conference center, etc... But once you enter the gate, keep driving and follow the signs to Merry Water World.
When you go in, you get a tag, this is both your locker key and your 'accounting' for the day. The locker rooms are quite nice with showers, Japanese style bath tubs and massage services.
Then you go to the pool area - there are different areas, we spend all our time in the kids area, but there was another area with hot spring water for adults, with smaller private pools, and some larger ones too - can't comment on these.
The kids area is GREAT!
Large slides:
There is a HUGE water slide, which you go down in a boat - it goes quite slowly, so safe for adventurous kids. But you have to walk up lots of steps to get to the top.
There is another slide for teens and up, that is like a skate ramp, and you also use a boat.
There was another slide, huge, just for people.
These three slides are only open certain times, posted clearly on a notice board.
Main kids area:
Suitable for age 0-8 (as a guess)
Super warm pool (almost too warm)
Very shallow, my two year old could just stand, my 3 year old could swim under water easily though.
There is a climbing structure in the middle, with 5 slides. One is a short tunnel slide, one is a twisty slide, one is a very fast drop slide, and there are two long tunnel slides - all loved by my kids! My two year old was able to climb up the steps herself and choose which slide she wanted, then I would run to the bottom to catch her. It was fabulous, we were in there for a couple hours!
Large Cold Pool
This one was also shallow, but got deeper in the centre.
You could rent these small paddle boats for the kids, I was quite surpised that my 3 year old could do it (you paddle with your hands), and there are other toys you can rent to float on.
If you bring your own float or toy, you can use that for free, the ones you rent from them are quite expensive (10 rmb for 10 minutes, worth it for the boat, but not the other stuff which would be cheaper to buy on your own)
The 'River'
There is a 'river' that goes around the area, and you can rent a row boat. We thought this might be fun, but it really wasn't... maybe in peak season they have a current running and that might make it more fun. You also have to go through a tunnel, and at each end there is a mini water fall you have to go through, and we all got wet with very cold water - the kids didn't enjoy this part that much.
Misc
there was a small craft area for the kids, which you have to pay for
Food
Included in the price is a buffet lunch with basic foods. We didn't eat there, so I can't comment except to say it closes at 2pm.
For the adults
There are saunas, hot springs, massages, etc... we thought it might be quite relaxing and enjoyable without the kids.
The atmosphere
very nice, not crowded, no loud music, no smoking, quite clean.
The negative
NO lounge chairs - we found this really really odd... they have a huge space, but no real place to base yourselves and hang out... it was the one feature that we really wished they had.
Things to bring:
shampoo, toiletries (they had cotton buds and hair dryers)
towels - they do provide them, but not sure if they charge, we had already brought our own
swimming costume, swimming cap and goggles (if you wish)
any swimming pool toys - balls, floats, etc... that you like
some snacks/drinks for the kids
It will exhaust the kids, but it will also exhaust you, and you might have a very hard time getting them to leave! Ours absolutely loved it, and didn't want to stop to eat lunch or to leave
Even though it is only 20 minutes away, it might be really nice to get a villa and stay overnight and use all the other facilities too.
It seemed quite well run, and some staff spoke English.
Have fun!
