Chinese cuisine can appear intimidating, which is why we have designed a special cooking class that focuses on the most basic Chinese cooking principles. The Chinese Kitchen: The Basics will teach you how to use a wok and cleaver with confidence, how to identify, use and pair key ingredients, and how to make fragrant oils and your own chili paste, all from scratch. At the end of class, you will take home your own homemade oils and a handout on spices. Each class will also comprehensively cover one stir-fried dish, with an emphasis on the best stir-frying techniques and stir-frying do nots, and a variety of indispensable tips to create delicious, healthy and simple Chinese cuisine back in your home kitchen.
The Basics is The Hutong’s version of a culinary stepping stone for guests who would like to recreate a chinese kitchen back in their home, and we recommend you follow up by taking either The Essentials or Tastes of China.
