International School or Normal Local Chinese school

Dear All,

I have a 1.5 year old son and we are about to move to Beijing for work in the coming 1 to 2 months. We have never live in Beijing before and I am just wondering what kind of international school and child care quality you can get in Beijing for my son and the cost etc...
My company is offering some financial support for my kid's education (approx 15,000USD/year), Is this enough for a good reputation international school? On the other hand, I have been browsing the internet and found some people mentioned that the quality of local Chinese schools are also not bad and they are a lot cheaper in comparison to international school. Do you have any recommendation for good local Chinese schools? any big concerns in local Chinese school?

Just wondering whether you can share some of your thoughts and experience on this matter.

Can you recommend a list of toddlers school in Beijing (both international and local Chinese school)? We don't know where in Beijing we will be staying a the moment, therefore any good recommendation you may have is fine. I am from New Zealand and my wife is Japanese, if possible we prefer our son to also learn English and Japanese and not just learning Chinese only.

We will be heading to Beijing soon for a 1 week look and see trip so we would like to find out what kind of options we have.

All your inputs and recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
B.

Re: International School or Normal Local Chinese school

hi B,

USD 15,000 can afford your son excellent care/education (especially for that age).

Here's some kindergartens that you may want to check out (if you haven't already):

http://www.beijing-kids.com/directory/Yew-Chung-International-School (starts from K2)

http://www.beijing-kids.com/directory/Happy-Baby-Kindergarten (local Chinese)

Unfortunately I don't know off hand of any schools for that age level that cater for Chinese, English and Japanese. There is a Japanese school (middle/high) in Beijing but my understanding is that they only admit students with Japanese passports.

Good luck!

Also, you can read about local schools and school hunting in Beijing:
