does your school charge for extra-curriculars?
does your school charge for extra-curriculars? just curious. My child's does and it somewhat irks me given the overall high cost of the school already ....

Yes, I have found that quite typical among virtually all of the schools. It would be one thing if some did and some didn't for the same type of activities. What exactly are they charging an extra fee for now that is bothering you most?

art class -- 90 mins once a week, nearly 2500 rmb.
in the brochure the kids appear to be taping macaroni to a paper plate and other such activities.

Wow, that is a hefty activity fee. I'm afraid my child will have to deal with less social interaction and just play games by himself at home. These fees are getting outrageous!!

Ours does as well - seems that since there is very little oversight of private schools, they can charge for whatever they very well please

I'm curious about this... Is this preschool age? Presumably, you already pay a monthly or yearly fee, right? So are these classes during the school day or after school? Do you have the option not to enroll? If you don't, then does your child just have to sit alone and wait for the others? Is this 2500/month?? That's quite a lot....

Re: does your school charge for extra-curriculars?
Our local kindy does charge for after school activities, but the prices seem fair to me, less than classes elsewhere.
Our issue is they are late, they finish at 6:10 pm!!
I think it is fair, as they are after school and optional. During the school day my kids get dance and roller blading and art, and those are all included in the fee - except for special equipement like roller blades and dance shoes, which we go to decathlon to buy.
They are a great choice for working parents without help at home, or if one of the classes really interests the kids.
