Quinoa?
Greetings,
Has anyone had luck finding quinoa ("keen-owa") in stores here? It's the protein-rich grain from South America. Either organic or conventional is fine. I have looked at Jenny Lou's (in-store) and they don't carry it.
If you have a lead, I'm all ears!

I could have sworn I saw small boxes of it in the imports section of Carrefour (Zhongguancun), tucked among the lentils and packages of pasta.
I love making a greek-inspired quinoa salad, very similar to this recipe. Hope you find some!

Hey, thanks. I'll check out the Carrefour near my place first and then head to the ZhongGuanCun location if I can't locate it there.
We use it in so many ways, and I am really missing it since moving here. We like to cook it instead of oatmeal in the morning for a different kind of hot cereal (with cinnamon). Or for a savory recipe I cook it with a veggie boullion cube/powder and cool it and make a cold salad with any type of veggies (raw or cooked, depending) and the dressing is just lemon juice and olive oil. It's super healthy and a good way to use up odds and ends of veggies in the fridge. Fresh cilantro tops it off nicely.
It's rich in protein, so our little guy who doesn't eat much meat gets some protein in his diet.
I wonder how it would hold up in a zhou/soymilk machine!?

We arranged a group order recently on the Beijing Organic Consumers' Forum. I have a few bags available (Green Dot Dot brand yellow quinoa).
40 kuai each. I live near lido. Also check your nearest Lohao City, they often have it.

I am a BOCA member, and still looking for quinoa as well. Do you plan to order some more bags? I would be interested, as I never saw it even at the Carrefour near Zhongguancun nor at Jenny Lou...

The NICK's MART also at Lido mall there also carries Green Dot Dot products and almost always has quinoa in stock. As does Lohao City. And Beyond Organic http://ofood.cn/ is an awesome company. Use a translation tool order by phone (they do have someone there who can speak English, or can have him call u back) They deliver. De Run Wu also sometimes has Quinoa. My 3-year-old daughter loves Quinoa cooked in chicken stock - finishes every last grain whenever I make it
Just finished the box of organic quinoa I brought back from the States so will definitely be hunting this down at Jenny Lou's et al as well

last time I made quinoa our Peruvian friend said, do it with cinnamon
fried onions and zucchini and garlic all diced finely in coconut oil
added sea salt, pepper, cinnamon when all was well cooked
added water and quinoa, let puff up
added pecans and raisins, yum.
