Easter egg hunt

I'm on an Easter egg hunt. I've got Comptoirs locked in and have heard rumours about Colibri cafe in the Village North offering Easter-themed goodies, but I'm yet to see any chocolate eggs in Jenny Lou's/April Gourmet. Is anyone having better luck than I am? Where are all the eggs hiding?

Re: Easter egg hunt

Jenny Lou's usually has a small, expensive assortment, but not until closer to the date. Best bet is if you know anyone at the Embassy. Their commissary usually has holiday treats like that, but they go fast.

Re: Easter egg hunt

That French bakery/cafe in lido usually has chocolate eggs and bunnies I think.

OK made the rounds yesterday. Again, my goals: find some Easter goodies for an easter hunt I'm having for my daughter's birthday. I wanted individually wrapped items, none priced more than RMB 10 a piece.

Kempi Deli, Kempinski Hotel: Lots of bunnies on offer, the least expensive of which was about the size of a deck of card and was RMB 39. Small chocolate eggs for an outrageous 6 kuai a pop. Good choice if money is no object.

Liangma Flower Market: No candies but lots of little supplies. Great for wicker baskets, painted eggshells, fragile little decorative chicks and bunnies, plastic egg shaped containers that can be filled with candy.

BHG Market Place, Solana Mall: A small display with Easter chocolates, but none priced under RMB 50. Very expensive.

Jenny Lou's, Sanlitun: Cadbury chocoloate eggs at 26/bag, though not individually wrapped. Small selection of other easter goodies, some really cool imported things like very realistic looking marzipan carrots, though all priced over RMB 40 for small selections (most near RMB 100)

April Gourmet, Sanltiun: Nothing

Friendship Supermarket, Sanlitun: Nothing

Today I'll hit Comptoirs, Carrefour, Metro and possibly Nuren Jie Flower market.

Re: Easter egg hunt

Hey admin - Thanks for sharing that list. At what point do you think Jenny Lou's might start carrying the above items? We actually stocked up on some Easter stuff when we went back to the states for a week, last month, but I'd love to get a few more things for the kids.

Re: Easter egg hunt

Slim pickins this year so far.

Wal-Mart has nothing.

Carrefour has some super big (and expensive) chocolate rabbits, plus small ones packaged at 4 for 22 kuai. Not cheap but at this point, the cheapest I've found.

Comptoirs de France have chocolate bunnies, but each is priced at RMB 60 and above.

The basement of Shinkong Place has chocolate shops that sell little foil covered chocolate eggs, but they end up to be about RMB 10 a pop for something about the size of an almond.

BHG In Shinkong Place is, as of April 1, full equipped with everything you need ... for Christmas.

and not at a discount.

Re: Easter egg hunt

Nothing like getting a head start ...

Some places around town seem to have the best strategy of all -- not bothering taking down their Christmas Decorations at all - way to save time and money!

Re: Easter egg hunt

I am so glad I am not the only one to find it "fancinating" with all the "old" holiday decorations. I really love the christmas decorations at the intersection of 3rd ring road and Dongzhimen (i think thats it) ....

but I am sure the "headstart" is the very reason! and today is better than tomorrow

see you all Saturday at Pizzapalooza!!!! btw...my family is gonna win!!!! Smile
