Care to talk about your child's kindergarten?

I'm interested in the parents Beijing kindergartens feedback. Which kindergartens provide really good care?

I really enjoy the care my child gets at the Family Learning House in Jianwai Soho -- great place.

I am really happy with the Ivy Schools. Both the Academy (all english school) and the Biligual at Ocean Express we have attended. I am very happy with both schools!! I would recommend both equally!

I used to work at Ivy, Ocean Express as i was an "insider" i decided not to send my daughter there Smile and now my daughter goes to the Family Learning House that we are happy with...now that we are on holidays, my daughter keeps asking when she is going to school...she is only 2.5 years old but loves it and understands that teachers are kind there...
as we speak other languages, today we tried new russian kindergarten "Smeshariki" thinking of going there on saturdays for 3 hour program so my daughter can still practice her Russian..

Daystar also has an excellent bilingual/bi-cultural kindergarten. Children spend a half day in a Montesory English environment and half day in a Chinese language learning environment.

Re: Care to talk about your child's kindergarten?

We absolutely LOVE Teremok, which is the original Russian kindy located north of GongTi. It's a really small school [maxes out at < 30 kids]. We especially love the way the kids help and support each other, in direct opposition to the Lord of the Flies situations that seem to crop up at some of our kids' friends' schools. I don't speak Russian, but the director [who is utterly brilliant] speaks great English and most of the other teachers speak at least a bit of English and/or Mandarin, so we manage to communicate just fine. The kids do little performances a few times a year for the parents; they take the kids on field trips; the kids learn reading and math and science in a family environment. We couldn't be happier with them

Re: Care to talk about your child's kindergarten?

Hi, I am will be moving to Beijing this week and am really glad I found this forum. The expat community in Beijing especially for parents and toddlers are so well set up. Beijingkids has helped my husband a lot in getting to understand living in Beijing before we get there. I wanted to know if anyone has their children at Sunny Garden International or Children's House International. My daughter is turning 3 next month and I'd like to send her to half day nursery but I am finding that most pre-schools have a full day programme for 3 year olds! I think those are very long hours for a first timer.

All I can say is that Children's House International (Kempinski, China World campuses ) are both with long history and well known, and quite popular.

Sunny Garden is quite new in comparison, and probably focuses more on Chinese.

Hi Yulia!
My name is Yelena. My husband, myself, and our 1 year old daughter are relocating to Beijing next month from the United States. We are both Russian and lived in many countries as well. How could I message you on here? I tried to add you as a friend on here but not sure how to message yet, I just found this site today Smile I have some questions for you about where is a good area to live and about the Russian daycare for my baby.
Thank you in advance!!!!

Re: Care to talk about your child's kindergarten?

HI Yelena, welcome to Beijing ...soon Wink

here is the website for Teremok: www.teremok.com.cn

here is another Russian kindergarten: www.smeshariki.cn.com

both of them are quite close to where I live ( 2 - 3 BUS stops only), though they are in different direction from each other...

I live in MOMA (Dongzhimen), ironically there are many Russian speaking families, perhaps cuz its very close to the Russian embassy and many Russian restaurant, and Russian embassy has it's own Russian school, and most of the kids that live in MOMA go there but i didnt chose MOMA cuz of that reason, just happened to be that way which is great since my mom lives with me and doesnt speak neither Chinese nor English so gets to chat to some russian speaking mamas...but location is anyways close to the embassy area and other International schools, you can see the link to many schools here

but there are many other real nice compounds in this area...again depends on where you work perhaps as in Beijing its all about location considering the crazy traffic that Beijing has to offer Smile

if you are looking for some Russian speaking friends and playdates, you can check another forum in Russian (Russkiy Detskiy club v Pekine), check out this Russian forum
they meet for playdates once every 2 weeks, this time even have Russian speaking pediatrician giving free talk on parenting...

any other questions, let me know, would be happy to help Wink

Thank you so much Yulia!
I will be contacting you in the future when I know where we will live. We should find out in a few weeks if we are assigned to Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzen.

Re: Care to talk about your child's kindergarten?

The ECE at YCIS Beijing was wonderful for our youngest. He really came out of his shell last year.

Their teachers are really kind - and there are two in every classroom, one Chinese and one western.

It's pretty small, based right in a park (Honglingjin) and on the same campus as the school so he had no transition problems at all this year for Year One.

The ECE at YCIS is good. They follow the British system. Bilingual. Western and Chinese teachers.

Re: Care to talk about your child's kindergarten?

We are looking at attending the KG on the MOMA complex in Dongzhemen that looks like Tellytubby hill, does anyone send their kids there? There are are several foreign/mixed nationality children there so is this a real 'International Kindergarten' or a standard 'rent a few foreigners and rip off parents with more money than sense International Kindergarten'!

The class sizes are small (about 10 kids per grade - lots of empty clasrooms too...should this be a worry!?) and the price is reasonable compared to other chinese owned 'international' schools we have looked at. They claim to provide a full subject curriculum in English rather than just English lessons aimed at native Chinese children. We really dont want ours to be sat there looking at pictures of animals and fruits and repeating them for half an hour each day, which seems pretty common place.

They seem to talk a good game but anyone have first hand experience? Seems a bit too good to be true which worries me slightly Laughing
