Chinabuzz: Primary school to separate students by red scarf and green scarf

In China, authorities require every student from primary school to wear the red scarf, because they are the members of the Young Pioneers organization, run by the Communist Youth League, an organization of older youth that comes under the Communist Party of China.

But in the No. 1 Experimental Primary School of Xi’an, those students who did have good performance in studies are not allowed to wear the red scarf, but the green scarf instead. The school authority explained this was to encourage them to study harder to catch up with students with good grades.

Ms. Su, feeling embarrassed when picking up her daughter after school, said that her daughter made efforts too, but since she was slow in study, her grades were just normal.
