Gabriella and Marcel Schneider have been living in Beijing with their children Simon (16) and Tim (15) for over six years. They are originally from Switzerland. Gabriella is a designer and Marcel is the CEO of TUI China, a travel company that offers trip packages throughout Asia. Here are the family’s favorite things to do in Beijing.
Favorite Way to Relax
We escape to the wild part of the Great Wall and relax by hiking, climbing, and running.
Favorite Neighborhood
We like the 798 or Caochangdi art districts.
Favorite Dessert or Snack
Instead of dessert, the grownups prefer a nice selection of cheese and some great red wine. We also like trying street food snacks whenever they can.
Shopping Spots
We shop at Panjiayuan Antique Market for some treasure hunting and Muxiyuan Fabric Market for fabrics. The kids shop at the Silk Market or Yashow Market on their own, but Sanlitun Village is their preferred hunting ground when they know we’re paying.
Best Place for Special Occasions
For a really special occasion, Maison Boulud is the place to go.
Date Night Spot
We like the lovely Italian restaurant Tavola.
New Discoveries
We like China Grill at Park Hyatt Beijing. It has an extraordinary 360 degree view of Beijing.
Favorite Place to Play
O’le Sports Center, which has indoor climbing, among other activities.
