Let’s be real for a second. When a teenager asks, “So, what do you do all day?” the answers “I’m in marketing,” “I work in sales,” or “I’m an accountant” often get a polite nod and a glazed-over look. We know your job is way more interesting than it sounds.
But what if your job doesn’t fit in a neat little box? What if your answer is more along the lines of:
“I train animals.”
“I design video games.”
“I run a company that builds treehouses.”
We see you. And we think your job is seriously cool.
We’re on a mission to show teenagers that the world of work is a vast, weird and wonderful place, filled with paths they probably don’t even know exist. The classic doctor-lawyer-engineer-teacher routes are amazing, but they’re not the whole story.
That’s where you come in. We are looking for parents with unconventional, fascinating and downright cool jobs to share their stories.
What would this involve?
We’d love to have a quick chat with you to learn about:
What you *actually* do all day. (No corporate jargon, please!)
The coolest, strangest or most rewarding part of your job.
How you stumbled into this field.
One piece of advice you have for a teen who thinks your job sounds awesome.
Your story could be the one that clicks with a young person. It could spark an interest, ease their anxiety about “having it all figured out,” or simply show them that a successful career can be built on passion, curiosity and a willingness to take a weird turn.
Why is this so important?
Teens are constantly asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s a daunting question when your only references are the jobs you see in your immediate community or on TV. By sharing the hidden, unconventional and emerging careers, we provide them with a broader map to the future. We show them that their unique hobbies and interests – whether it’s gaming, gardening, storytelling or tinkering – could actually be the foundation for a fulfilling career.
If you’re a parent with a job that makes people say, “Wait, you can get paid to do that?!” we want to hear from you.
