Please give a quick introduction of your winter camp.
Within the Arctic Circle, ice and snow are not merely scenery, but the most vivid teaching materials for future education. This region serves as a magnifying glass for global climate change, where warming occurs far faster than the world average.
As ice sheets melt, forests shift northward, and wetlands and tundra gradually give way to shrubbery, reindeer foraging patterns and human livelihoods are quietly transforming…

We shall experience Finnish education, hailed by UNESCO as “a model for future-oriented learning”, transforming real environmental challenges into classroom lessons.
Through experiential learning, children will explore everything from wildlife to ice and snow, survival to culture, cultivating future-ready strengths in the present: perceptiveness, empathy, creativity, and collaboration!
What can the kids expect to learn?
1. Children do not merely ‘visit’ the Arctic; they develop a profound understanding of life and the environment through four core themes in the real world:
Animal Theme: From Helsinki’s Natural History Museum to Ranua Wildlife Park, then exploring Arctic forests by Lake Inari, children observe animal behaviour across diverse ecosystems, understanding how life adapts to polar environments.
Natural Phenomena Theme: Through activities like skiing, snow sculpting, and ice crystal observation, they personally experience the physical properties and cultural symbolism of snow and ice, grasping how these elements shape Arctic ecosystems and human lifestyles.
Daily Survival Theme: Chopping wood, tending fires, and ice fishing in traditional camps allow children to experience the rhythm and resilience of Arctic life, understanding how humans coexist with nature.
Indigenous Culture Theme: Visiting the Sámi Museum Siida, children gain insight into Sámi architecture, beliefs, and livelihoods through drama and craft activities, fostering cultural sensitivity and respect.

2. A Model for Future-Oriented Education:
In Finland, nature is the classroom, and phenomena are the textbooks.
Finland became the world’s first nation to incorporate Phenomenon-Based Learning (PBL) into its national curriculum standards. This approach aims to enable learners to integrate knowledge through interdisciplinary, real-world phenomena, fostering the ability to tackle complex problems rather than merely mastering isolated subject knowledge:

Nature as education: Forests become classrooms, lakeshores laboratories, and snowfields teaching materials. The natural environment serves not merely for scientific observation but as the core arena for cognitive, emotional, and social development.
Arctic Circle Phenomenon-Based Learning: Anchored by the theme “Arctic Life”, children progress through observation, questioning, research, and expression to form a complete learning cycle, developing interdisciplinary thinking and real-world action skills.
Cultivating Core Competencies for the AI Era: Finnish education no longer aims merely to “adapt to technology” but to “develop human capabilities”: perceptual awareness, empathy, creativity, and collaboration. This builds an educational triangle of “Technology × Humanities × Nature,” helping children maintain humanity and resilience in a complex world.
3. Parent-Child Growth Together: Reconnecting in the Arctic
The program focuses not only on children’s development but also on rebuilding family bonds and fostering parent-child collaboration:

Living and Learning Together: Parents and children share accommodation, build fires and cook meals, becoming true companions in daily life; they explore and express themselves together, forging deep learning connections.

Reconnection and Healing: Bonfire gatherings, snow games, and craft activities forge warm, unforgettable family memories. Amidst the pristine snow, souls are cleansed, rebuilding trust and companionship within parent-child bonds. Families find purification and rebirth in nature’s embrace.
