Now that the burn has fully subsided from the Beijinger‘s Hot and Spicy Festival last month, we ride the success of that inaugural outing and move back to familiar ground with the announcement of the sixth Burger Festival of our sister brand! This year’s event will take place in what has become the festival’s home turf: Galaxy Soho on the weekend of Jun 16-17.

Last year’s event attracted close to 20,000 hungry fans of all things burger (proven by half the vendors selling out on the first day) and this year, our team hopes to outdo ourselves once again with our best festival in honor of the humble combination of meat and buns yet.

With over a month to go, we’ve already completely sold out of booths, which means there are already 40 burger vendors and 20 drink vendors working away to bring you the best of their meaty and thirst-quenching products. There’ll also be ice cream, juice, and other refreshments to keep you feasting to your heart’s content.

Whereas 2017 was a celebration of burgers and the Wild West, 2018’s Beijing Burger Fest is all about rock ‘n’ roll. Expect high-energy performances and music and enough grub and drinks to keep you pogoing throughout the weekend. Those will include the finest line-up of Beijing’s rock and blues bands, a selection of rock bands from the city’s international schools, a rock ‘n’ roll karaoke contest (start practicing that growl now), and a kids area so that the young’uns don’t miss out on all the devil-horned fun.

In keeping with that theme, our suggested dress code is dress like your favorite the rockstar! Avril Lavigne? Sure. Elvis Presley? Uh-huh! Kurt Cobain? Definitely. Michael Jackson? Oo-hoo! There are also pinup girls, rockabilly, metalheads – the options are literally endless.

Basketball arcade hoops should let out energy for the sporty types. Dads can show off their skills or start up a competition with their teen.

If your kid can bear not to wiggle, henna is a fun way to experience and express cultural artistic vision.

Of course, face painting will be there for the animals, royalty, and super heroes in our midst.

Psssst, our sister publication the Beijinger is putting on its first-ever Burger Festival this Saturday, August 17 from 4-9pm at Beijing City International School. Why should you care (besides the fact that everyone loves burgers)? For one thing, entry is free for kids under 12 (and a very reasonable RMB 50 for adults). The ticket is redeemable at any vendor for a mini-burger and beer. Water, soft drinks, and fruits will also be available to keep everyone hydrated. There will be chairs and tables provided, but you can also bring your own mat to sit on and have a picnic-style day out. For younger kids, there will be three small inflated pools filled with toys to cool off in. Plus, moms and dads can enjoy some soothing late afternoon country music from the Randy Abel Stable band.

The munchies will be spirited away by the elite eight burger joints that made the cut: Home Plate Bar-B-Que (last year’s winner), Union Bar and Grille, Tim’s Texas Bar-B-Que, Great Leap Brewing, The Local, Blue Frog, Let’s Burger and Lily’s American Diner.

The final eight were chosen through a series of online voting heats on thebeijinger.com that closed on August 5. There will be a live cook-off, with the restaurants trying to make a lasting impression. The 2013 Burger Cup winner will be decided after live voting closes at 7.30pm.

Winning will not only be left to the restaurants, as there will be raffle draw with a bike from Vedett worth RMB 1,300. Also to be snapped up is a one-night stay at the Imperial Mansion, Beijing Marriott Exclusive Apartments and more.
