Were you one of the lucky ones at the inaugural Jingkids Summer Fling on May 29? It was a fun-filled day where families got to hang out, eat together, and casually check out some of the many summer camps offered!

I know lots of parents still need to sort their summer and figure out where their kid will go. Here’s the list of all the summer camps from our Summer Fling, and how to contact them! If you still need more, just look through all these camps we’ve already previewed on our blog.

一土空间 ETU Space (ages 5+) introduces kids to public welfare and growing gains through camp activities.

This bilingual camp merges a child’s love of superheroes, science, and engineering through hands-on training that focuses on teamwork, basic programming, and creativity.

问创教育 Venture Education will teach you how to build a rocket.

For weeks we’ve hyped up the fact that Saturday, May 29’s Jingkids Summer Fling won’t just have people standing behind booths trying to get you to sign your kids up for their camp. Every camp present will also have activities for the kids to try, so you can see not only how the camp counselors interact and jive with your kiddos, but also how your kids respond to the activities provided by the camps!

And now you can finally see our list of fantastic camp participants. Each one will be there on Saturday, ready with fun things to do and answers all of your questions!

Working Parents: Sample Camps to Sort Your Summer at Jingkids Summer Fling!

What is currently the biggest question on every working parent’s mind?

Summer camps!

I love being a reliable source of information for parents. It’s half of why I love my job here at Jingkids. So every time a parent asks me where their kid should go to summer camp, I know I can send them this list. But the truth is, there are so many more camps available than we were able to profile, and many will be at the Jingkids Summer Fling next Saturday (May 29), just for you!

Since most families can’t travel outside of China, and working parents need to know how summer camp will affect their schedule and budget, we’re hosting over 20 camps in one place, so you and your kids can test them out right there! I need to stress this part. At the Jingkids Summer Fling your kids can get a taste of what these summer camps are all about through actual activities and not just reading about it on a pamphlet.

Your work schedule doesn’t care that it’s summer, though, so remember to ask these key questions when you talk to the camp representatives on Saturday. Some of these may be questions or ideas camp staff haven’t considered yet, and being there in person to ask is a lot more persuasive than simply asking over WeChat.

What time does camp start? Are there any early start or flexible drop-off times available?
What time is pick up? What happens if a parent or guardian is running late for pick up?
What is the process for allowing people other than parents or guardians to pick up children?
For overnight camps, how are campers supervised?
What is the experience level of camp counselors?
If lunch is provided, what are the choices?
If lunch isn’t provided, is there refrigeration available on-site?
What is the camper to counselor ratio?
Is there a nurse on-site, or someone certified to administer first aid?
Is there a discount rate for siblings? For referrals? For groups?
For younger campers, how is security at the site? Is the location well secured?

Every family has its own needs, but this is a good starter checklist to remind you of important questions to ask while your child is dazzled by their newfound football ability or wowed by one of the many fun activities our camps will offer families on Saturday!

When: Sat, May 29, from 10am-6pm (Rain Date: Sun, May 30, from 10am-6pm)

Please note this is a date change from the original announcement of May 22.

Where: Dongfeng International Sports Park (just west of Chaoyang Park)

Tickets: RMB 100 for a family of three (+RMB 50 for each additional person). Includes a free picnic blanket. If you have a total of ten (or more) friends coming, tickets are RMB 25 each.

Note: Small tents and picnic blankets welcome! Open flame cooking is not permitted.

New Summer Fling Date: May 29

Hey Parents!

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to play it safe and move this year’s Jingkids Summer Fling – originally planned for this Saturday (May 22) – to next week (Saturday, May 29). If if rains next Saturday, the rain date will be Sunday, May 30.

While it might sound like the beginning of another wave of Covid restrictions, it’s not!

The latest cause for concern was a person from Anhui Province who changed trains in Beijing on May 10. Everyone she was in contact with during her three hour stay has been traced and is currently being monitored. Rest assured, however, none have developed symptoms.

Our new date of May 29 is more than two weeks after this case briefly passed through Beijing, so we’re confident that we’ll be 100 percent in the clear by that time.

Other than the change of date, the Summer Fling will remain the same – fun in the sun for everyone (don’t forget the sunscreen!) and summer activities providers galore, offering you the perfect chance to meet camp counselors and organizers before planning your child’s summer vacation.

What’s more, we know some of Beijing’s school communities had events planned for the 22nd, so the postponement is great for anyone who was worried about scheduling conflicts. Simply put, now more families can join in the fun!

Tickets already purchased (and won) will of course be honored on May 29.

However, if you purchased a ticket for May 22 and cannot attend the picnic on May 29, please send an email to marketing@truerun.com with the cellphone number you used to purchase your ticket(s) and you will be issued a full refund.

The Baby Momma’s Picnic Essentials

Update May 19: Out of an abundance of caution, we are postponing Jingkids Summer Fling from Sat, May 22 to Sat, May 29 (Rain date Sun, May 30). All bought and won tickets will be automatically transferred to this date. Full announcement, including how to request a refund, can be found here.

Last week we compiled a list of picnic essentials from Decathalon and dubbed it the Dad’s Picnic Essentials list. Mike Wester had a hard time understanding why it was such a “dad” list. “Is it because I put a fishing hat on the list?” he asked… Yes, but it’s not just the hat…

Later that week, Cindy Marie Jenkins created a helpful Toddler Tapas list of picnic snack essentials for parents with younger ones in tow. Today, however, we’re going to look at the must-have list for families with babies.

Actual picnic blanket: There’s a difference between a picnic blanket and a big beach towel. Picnic blankets are thicker and a bit cushier, making them an ideal choice for babies who’ll be sitting on the ground for a long time, especially if your kid is still a bit wobbly and might tip over. If you purchased tickets in advance, you can pick up your free picnic blanket at the door!

Tent: While it might not be a must-have in the strictest sense, it will be nice if you plan on being outside for multiple hours with your baby. For instance, naptime in a tent will be much comfier for your little one and you won’t have to worry about them getting sunburned.

Inflatable lounge chairs: Instead of carrying a clunky plastic chair, you can conveniently fill this up with air by running around with it for a few seconds, and voila, instant inflatable couch! It’s essentially a giant Zip-Lock bag.

Mosquito repellent: If there’s grass there’s going to be mosquitos. Whether you use the sticker, those clips, wristband, or spray, just be sure to bring something that’ll keep the babies safe.

Sunblock: Keep the little ones from burning up. Be sure you’re using sunblock that’s specifically for babies.

Usual diaper bag essentials: diapers, changing pad, wet wipes, tissues, bottles, binkies, toys, etc. A small bag for trash in case a garbage can isn’t immediately in view.

Baby carrier: The Summer Fling is going to be huge. You’ll want to stroll from one end to the other, however, the entire place is grassy and even has a few tiny hills. All of which is to say: A stroller is not going to be the most convenient way to get around with your baby.

Snacks: There will be plenty of food and drink vendors at Summer Fling, so you don’t really need to bring anything other than baby food. I like to travel light anywhere I go so a few baggies of Little Freddies is enough. I won’t be bringing loads of homemade food. The picnic is for the kids, but it’s also a time for parents to relax and unwind.

Feeding:

I don’t know about you guys, but heating up frozen breastmilk when we’re out is never that convenient. When you’re at a picnic, it’s even harder because you can’t get access to water hot enough to heat up the bags of breastmilk. I’ll be bringing a travel hot water kettle. If anyone needs it, come find me at the Jingkids tent!

Got Questions About Summer Fling? Here Are the FAQs

If you’ve got kids – especially school-aged kids – then the Jingkids Summer Fling is the go-to event of the season.

We’ve planned a full day of fun in the sun for the whole family, centered around some of Beijing’s most trustworthy and reliably fantastic summer camps, who will be on hand to help you find out how you and your family can make the most of the long break. More importantly, however, we’ve made sure that the camp organizers will be showcasing their programs through interactive activities for children. There’s no stuffy, socially awkward sales person standing behind a booth trying to hand you bland pamphlets. At the Jingkids Summer Fling, your kids get to enjoy hands on activities with every single camp. Think of it as a sampler for Beijing’s best summer camps!

Everything from science-related camps to dance, sports, academics, and finance. Simply put, the Jingkids Summer Fling is going to be a blast!

Here’s a quick list of FAQs based on questions that we’ve been getting from parents over the last week.

Q: Will there be food?
A: Absolutely! You can bring your own food and drinks, but there will also be a variety of vendors. We’re not talking about those weird sausage stands that you see in Chaoyang Park. At the Jingkids Summer Fling, there will be food vendors like Jooma selling their signature blend of healthy and delicious yogurt, Basil, the new healthy lifestyle meal plan for those who want to eat better but don’t want to sacrifice their taste buds, Peach by Hulu who is a new Beijing foodie favorite, Go!Acai with fresh juices, Pinvita with ice cream (because every picnic needs ice cream), and many others.

Q: Can I bring my pets?
A: Sorry. No pets allowed this time.

Q: Can we bring a small grill?
A: No. Open flames are not allowed.

Q: I bought a family ticket. What does that include?
A: A family ticket includes entry for 2 adults + 1 child. If you have additional members in your family you can purchase more tickets for RMB 50 per person.

Q: Is there a kid’s price ticket?
A: No. Single entry tickets are RMB 50/person regardless of age. However, if you have a baby who can’t yet walk, they can come in for free.

Q: Is there parking?
A: Yes.

Q: Is there a bathroom on site?
A: Yes. The picnic is taking place just feet away from the Dongfeng International Sports Park clubhouse where there’s a nice clean bathroom. No baby changing tables though.

Q: What happens if it rains?
A: If it rains on May 29 we’ll postpone the Summer Fling to May 30. We’ll notify all attendees on May 28 if we’ll be postponing the event. Be sure to follow us on WeChat (ID: beijing-kids) to stay updated.

Q: My child is still a baby. Are they too young for Summer Fling?
A: Not at all! While the majority of camp activities are for older kids, Laureate Daycare will be there and they specialize in children starting from 5 months old. Plus, kids are never too young to just enjoy the nice weather on a picnic blanket.

How to get to Summer Fling

By car: If you’re driving, input the address in your GPS or follow our location pin.

By DiDi: Input 东枫国际体育园 (dōng fēng guójì tǐyù yuán) into your DiDi and it’ll take you straight to the entrance of Dongfeng International Sports Park. There’s only one entrance.

By subway: The closest subway station is Tuanjiehu Station on Line 10 and take exit B.
