SinoScuba Celebrates 10 Years of Diving in China
SinoScuba, Beijing’s leading scuba and marine education organization, marked its 10th anniversary of serving China’s growing diving community and introducing thousands of people to the underwater world. Established on January 1, 2003, SinoScuba has pioneered scuba diving and marine education in China, being the first in China to offer Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) courses including Drysuit Diver and Ice Diver and Project AWARE programs including Coral Reef Conservation. SinoScuba has brought the underwater world closer to Beijing through its Shark Interaction Program at the Blue Zoo Aquarium and Dolphin Interaction Program at the Beijing Aquarium, by teaming up with Beijing international schools for scuba and marine education programs, and by offering a wide range of PADI courses.
New Communications Director at BIBA
Karen McBride has taken on the role of communications director at Beijing International Bilingual Academy (BIBA). Originally from Northern Ireland, Karen is a graduate of St. Andrews University (UK) with a joint honors MA in French and Spanish. She spent many years in various international sales and marketing roles in European business before moving to China in 2004 with her husband and two children. In Beijing, she was VP Sales and Marketing for the dairy brand Wondermilk before joining BIBA as marketing and admissions manager in 2011. Her two children are students at BIBA.
Mark Orrow-Whiting Talks Academic Progress at BSB
On Monday, January 21, Mark Orrow-Whiting was at The British School of Beijing’s (BSB) Sanlitun campus to speak to parents about helping their children make progress at school. Orrow-Whiting’s work deals with breaking down preconceived ideas about intelligence, ability and the curriculum. Orrow-Whiting drew on research into ability and learning capacity that demonstrates that intelligence and ability. He and his colleagues at Nord Anglia Education suggest that we should not categorize children in terms of ability, and believe that all students have the capacity to perform highly.
Dulwich Early Years Program to Join Legend Garden Campus
Dulwich College Beijing is proud to announce that, after the construction of its new extension, the school will offer its Early Years program at the Legend Garden Campus. The new classes, which will run from Toddler through to Year 2, will start in August 2013. The Riviera Early Years Campuses will remain open, with classes for students aged 18 months to 7 years. The current Legend Early Years temporary campus will be closed and all students will move into the new facilities at the Legend Garden Campus. Dulwich has already begun to accept applications for the Early Years program at the Legend Garden Campus.
Head of BCIS Wins 2012 International Talent in Chaoyang District Award
The Head of Beijing City International School (BCIS), Nick Bowley, has been awarded the 2012 International Talent by the Chaoyang District government. This award honors his commitment to providing a truly solid and innovative education to the local community this past year. Among the five winners in this category, Bowley is the only representative from the educational arena. Bowley has served as a teacher, principal, and head of school in international schools in East Africa, the Middle East and China. He led BCIS as Interim Head of School for one year, 2007-2008. For the next 18 months, Bowley broadened his knowledge of international education by traveling the world as an accreditation officer for the Council of International Schools before returning to BCIS as a full-time consultant in January 2010. He assumed leadership of BCIS in July 2010.
YCIS Receives License to Run International Award for Young People
On Tuesday, November 6, Yew Chung International School of Beijing (YCIS) was
officially certified to offer The International Award for Young People. This award is the international version of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and has been warmly greeted by all teachers and students at YCIS. The International Award for Young People requires students to complete four key areas of self-development including Service, Adventurous Journey, Skills and Physical Recreation. Gold, silver and bronze awards can be attained depending on student’s age and length of time students participate in the program.
