Harrow’s New Campus Opens On March 18, the new campus of Harrow International School Beijing opened by hosting the U13 FOBISSEA Games. The new campus brings together the whole school in the same spot for the first time. Headmaster Matthew Farthing says, “I am delighted to announce that we are ready to move to our new purpose-built campus at the end of this academic term.” Students, parents, teachers, and faculty are looking forward to new facilities and more space. Slow Life Patchwork Opens
Quilters have a new local resource for their craft: Slow Life Patchwork, a new shop in SOHO Shangdu. The staff at the store is part of the Slow Life movement, which values authenticity, thoughtful consumption, and a do-it-yourself mentality. The store offers courses on hand quilting and even certification. Experts from Japan visit monthly to lead workshops, which are attended by quilters from all over China. The store sells colorful fabrics, buttons, and quilting tools, and the fabric toys and handbags that beginner students craft.

O’le Ski Hosts First International Schools Snow Sports Championships
On March 9, 17 participants and numerous supporters attended the first-ever International Schools Snow Sports Championships at Wanlong Ski Resort. All skiers and snowboarders made impressive runs through the challenging Giant Slalom course, and many came away with prizes ranging from brand new skis to private English-language ski lessons courtesy of event founders O’le Ski. Congratulations to BCIS, who won this year’s overall ISSCC Trophy!
IDC Dental Welcomes Dr. Annabel Boudville
IDC is proud to welcome Dr. Annabel Boudville, BDSc. Dr. Boudville joined IDC Dental in February, 2013. A graduate of University of Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Boudville’s years of training and clinical experience have focused on general dentistry, restorative dentistry, children’s dentistry, and preventative care. She is licensed to practice dentistry in Beijing, Singapore, and Australia, and speaks fluent English, Malay, and conversational Mandarin. To celebrate the addition to the team, IDC Dental is offering free examinations (including X-rays) every Thursday throughout April.
Dulwich Introduces Dual Language Model
Dulwich College Beijing will introduce a dual language model in Early Years for the 2013-14 academic year. Each child in the Foundation Stage will receive an individual language plan that caters to his or her specific language needs. Students will hear and speak English and Mandarin every day in natural contexts with the aim of developing proficiency in both languages by the end of Year 2. The dual language model will be offered at both the Legend Garden and Riviera Early Years campuses.

Atelier Launches Photography Department
Atelier’s new photography department has opened. To celebrate, they will be hosting a number of photography workshops this month. At Dark Room Night on April 8, photographers of all skill levels will learn to process black and white photos the old-school way using Atelier’s new darkroom. If you need to learn the basics first, attend the Photography Analog sessions starting April 24, and learn to photograph on film. Those who’d rather stay with the digital age can attend the workshop to master your DSLR and learn about composition. Sessions start also on April 24, and participants must bring their own cameras.
WAB Welcomes New Deputy Director for Learning and Instruction
The Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) welcomes Courtney Lowe as the new deputy director for learning and instruction. Lowe has 20 years of experience in teaching and school administration in Asia. Lowe comes to Beijing with his wife and three daughters, all of whom look forward to making the city their home.
