Cuandixia “Ming Village” Day Trip
Situated in the mountains to the west of Beijing, the 500-year-old Cuandixia village is sometimes known as a “living museum” thanks to its well-preserved Ming-era stone cottages and buildings. During this day trip, you’ll get to explore the winding alleys and ancient courtyard homes of this fascinating village, as well as enjoy a hike in the hills and a hearty lunch in the village restaurant. It’s a fairly long day trip, and although the hiking isn’t strenuous there will be quite a lot of stair-climbing, so this is probably better suited to older kids.
7.15am, first departure. Bus pickup from Lido and Liangmaqiao. RMB 450, RMB 180 for kids 7-12.
There are only two spots left for this Saturday’s flower picnic workshop, so if you’re interested don’t delay! Hosted by local florist Studio Flowers, this outdoor picnic is all about making gorgeous flower crowns, enjoying tasty cold cuts and snacks, sparkling wine for the adults, and getting those perfect Insta-worthy pics to remember it all. This would be a great mother-daughter activity, the perfect way to celebrate summer. If you miss out this time, don’t worry because there are more picnics planned till September, with the next taking place Jul 24.
5.30pm. Taiyanggong Park. RMB 418 adults, RMB 300 kids.
Sun, Jul 11
Youth Photography Project of Peking Opera
Got a mini shutterbug at home? This workshop – co-hosted by renowned Beijing photography gallery 3 Shadows and Culture Art Tour – will combine the art, history, and culture of traditional Peking Opera with professional photography techniques and workshops. Kids will get to delve into all aspects of Peking Opera, including trying on traditional makeup and costumes, while learning from some of the best photographers and videographers in the business. Scan the QR code below for precise location.
1.30-5.30pm. Central Beijing. RMB 568 per child (one parent can accompany for free).
Save the Date…
Beijing Hikers will be heading out to the White River on Jul 24. This is a very popular hike year-round (think shady picnics and cooling off in fresh water) and great for kids.
And don’t forget about these ongoing events and exhibitions…
