I really thought she would not remember it, but to this day she still talks about the spectacle. I would say worth the money then. My daughter dressed up as Elsa – like around 200 other girls. We got some light-up toys from one of the vendors on the street, and entered the arena. I had never taken her to such a grand place so it immediately made an impression.

When the lights dimmed we were amazed by many songs and dances from our favorite Disney movies. Some of the movies I’d even forgotten, but I could still sing along to the hits. I had to purchase some of the golden oldies like Aladdin and watch them with my daughter later.

The show is a two hour spectacle at the Mercedes-Benz Arena next to the Zoo. Over 50 Disney characters will be featured in the show, including stars from Frozen, The Lion King, Zootopia, Beauty and the Beast and Finding Nemo.

Some amazing songs will be featured to sing along to like “Hakuna Matata,” “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Let It Go,” “At Last I See the Light” and “A Whole New World.” I for one can’t wait to blast my vocal cords and impress my 4-year-old daughter with my Disney knowledge. Ages 8+. In this age of technological advancement and accessible social media platforms, there are no limits to what we can create and share with the world with just the phones in our hands. With limitless sources for output, there comes a tendency to lose sight of the importance in foundational elements. Just take a look at the sheer amount of lifeless narratives in the Summer blockbusters, an explosion of images with no clear objective. The SLab brings you a whole new theme of Storytelling workshops, where students will be able to explore three different methods to tell stories, from illustration to photography, to film. Come build stories and narratives with The SLab’s three available programs: Movie Making; Comic Creation; and Visual Diary. The SLab. (138 1121 8031).
My niece just had a baby, and this got me thinking about music. As I’ve told many an expectant father, every pregnancy is different and every delivery is a unique and wonderful experience. This is particularly true for the fathers because we do not have to suffer the bodily changes and challenges of giving birth. At any rate, having “assisted” with the delivery of three kids (I took photos), I felt uniquely qualified to compile and share a list of suitable music for the delivery room. A bit of warning here, if you need silence for your delivery, this list is not for you. If you require soft soothing sounds ala Yani or Kenny G, definitely steer clear. But if you have a sense of humor and enjoy a good tune, read on.

Once in a blue moon, you get an opportunity to help someone accomplish something great. It is a fantastic feeling, especially if that accomplishment will go on to help children do more than just zone out on technology. Red Grammer is a Grammy-nominated, award-winning singer/songwriter who specializes in music that instills positive values in young children. If you have heard his music, than you need no further explanation; you already know Red is one in a million. His passion for music and helping kids become world citizens is infectious.

A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of helping Red make a video for his song “See Me Beautiful”from one of his live performances. He used the video for a concert that he gave at Daystar Academy at the time.

It was hard for me to believe that after more than three decades of performing live for audiences around the globe, it was his first foray into using technology beyond simple lighting and sound. I was honored to create the background video for him, and was further touched when he wanted to use my photographs for the project.

Now, Red Grammer is seeking help again to interweave his musical zeal and creativity with a bit of modern tech – this time for Red’s World. The latter will include interactive apps, music videos, games, and other content designed to help children become the “curious, confident, caring human beings they were meant to be.”

In short, Red Grammer is on a mission to do for iPads, Android and Surface tablets, and other portable devices what he has already done for tape, CD, and mp3 players over the years: make them better and safer for our children, with lots of inspiring content.

How can you help? Check out the phenomenal introduction page and video he created on Kickstarter here. You can pledge as little as USD 1 to help reach the goal of USD 66,000 that will be used to get Red’s World started. If it is half as good as Red’s intro video, the app and accompanying videos will be awesomely amazing.

The Kickstarter page contains links to seven of Red’s award-winning songs, including “Barnyard Boogie,” “See Me Beautiful,” “Listen,” and “Teaching Peace.” Gifts for pledges include autographed CDs, music downloads, Skype concerts – even a live concert anywhere in the world, if the pledge is large enough.

However much you choose to pledge, it will all go towards a worthy cause. Check out the Kickstarter page, make a donation, and get your bragging rights as a co-sponsor of what will no doubt become an award-winning app.

To find out more about Red Grammer’s music, videos, and concerts, visit www.redgrammer.com.
